Excavation, construction and demolition waste is one of the heaviest and most voluminous wastes produced in the European Union.
The Excavation, Construction and Demolition Waste Management Units (AEEK) are specialized facilities that undertake the collection, processing and recycling of waste from construction activities. These units play an important role in the management of WWTPs and contribute to reducing their environmental impact.
The main functions of the Management Units include:
- Collection and Transfer: WEEE is collected from the construction sites and transferred to the management units.
- Sorting and Separation: Waste is separated into categories (eg, metals, concrete, wood) based on whether it can be recycled or reused.
- Recycling: Materials such as concrete, metals and timber are processed to be reused in new construction projects.
- Disposal in landfills: Everything that cannot be recycled is deposited in special areas safe for the environment.
These units reduce the volume of waste that ends up in landfills and promote the circular economy in the construction sector.
It is pointed out that those who produce or manage AEKK have the following obligations:
- To contract with properly licensed collectors - transporters.
- To contract with an approved AEKK Alternative Management System either directly or through the collector.
- To pay the processing fee to the Alternative Management System.
- To submit the confirmation of receipt of the AEKK from the System to the Authority supervising the Project, so that the letter of guarantee can be returned to them.
- To encourage and facilitate in practice the dismantling, reuse, utilization and in general the recycling of construction materials.
Our company cooperates with the company PSARRAS ALTERNATIVE ADMINISTRATION A.E.K.K. for the management of AEKK. The object of the specific company A.E.K.K is the organization and supervision of the alternative management works of AEKK (Collection-Transfer-Processing) carried out by public and/or private legal and natural persons (Administrators, Units) and the notification of public administration and administrators AEKK for their obligations arising from the legislation.
